September 26, 2025At ADIC, we believe that alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use is an impediment to true happiness. ADIC has always been committed to experimenting with and introducing innovative approaches to prevention, ensuring that communities are mobilized to reduce the harmful effects of substance use.
On 4th September 2025, we hosted the “Community Symposium: From Insight to Impact – Successful Interventions in Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Prevention” at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Colombo 7. The symposium highlighted how substance users, children, youth, women, government officers, and community activists have taken the lead in creating positive change through prevention efforts, challenging industry interference, and mobilizing communities to drive social change.
The event featured seven oral presentations and fifty poster presentations in Sinhala and Tamil, showcasing impactful success stories from across the country. It provided a unique platform for grassroots voices to share their approaches, experiences, and achievements in prevention, as well as stories of exposing and counteracting the manipulative strategies of the alcohol and tobacco industries.
Communities are our pillars of strength. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to making these achievements a reality, and we will continue to drive our efforts to ensure healthier, happier, and more peaceful communities.
We are deeply grateful to the World Health Organization for their financial support in making this event a reality.
