The Alcohol and Drug Information Centre (ADIC) is a well-recognized resource center, promoting demand reduction of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD) and advocating effective policy formulation for ATOD control nationally, regionally and internationally over the last 30 years. Our scientific approach recognizes the importance of preventing drug use through social change and effective education. We provide services to government, non-government, civil society organizations and public in general, in terms of technicality, educational/promotional material on drug prevention, resource persons and information.
History
ADIC was inaugurated in 1987 and was established as an independent organization in 1990. ADIC is registered under the Companies Act No. 7 of 2007 and Voluntary Social Services Act No. 31 of 1980 as amended by Act No. 8 of 1998 of Sri Lanka and obtained Approved Charity Status in 1992. The catalyst for the establishment of ADIC came from professionals observing that, despite being aware of the harmful effects of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, people continue to use them. Therefore, ADIC was initiated with the intention of demonstrating that the consumption of these products impedes the level of happiness in people's lives
