July 24, 2024In 2015, Colombo Youth Zone organized the Fly the Lantern Festival, a youth event with the objectives of making participants understand the symbolic meanings attached to alcohol use, reducing the expectations of pleasure associated with alcohol, recognizing behaviors attributed to alcohol use, reducing the negative image attached to non-use or soft alcohol use, and reducing the attractiveness and image of alcohol use among youngsters. Additionally, the event aimed to promote the Youth Zone club.
This event demonstrated that youth could have unlimited fun while enjoying the event and the after-party without alcohol, tobacco, or any other drug. It was conducted among youth groups aged 16 to 21 in the Colombo district and featured several games to promote youth cooperation.
Games that were conducted on the day are as follows:
- Treasure hunt (Around Colombo in 90 minutes)
- Dance Battle
- Paper Dance
The Fly the Lantern Festival was held at Kaladoowa, Gangaramaya, on September 11, 2015, from 3:00 p.m. onwards, under the theme “Who said alcohol is fun.”
