July 23, 2024The Digital Stories Competition provides an opportunity for amateurs to create movies and compete against their peers, in order to improve their creativity and knowledge of prevention. This competition was open exclusively to participants under the age of 25 who are interested in the IT field.
Objectives
The primary goal of the competition is to reduce the attractiveness and image of alcohol.
Methodology
Participants were tasked with creating a digital movie clip not exceeding 45 seconds using any software, under the theme "Who said alcohol is fun?" To promote the competition, campaigns were conducted in the IT departments of schools, universities, IT tuition classes, and IT centers across the island.
The competition evaluated entries based on three criteria:
- Understanding of the concept
- Creativity
- Technicality
Promotional efforts included posters, leaflets, banners, as well as email and Facebook campaigns to publicize the competition.
Event Highlights
After submissions, all digital clips were reviewed, and the best 25 clips were selected. During the grand finale, these 25 clips were screened in the presence of media personnel, celebrities, academics, and professionals. Winners were awarded prizes for their outstanding work.
Outcomes
The competition received an overwhelming response, with 1,008 short movies submitted. Participants gained insights into the constructed image of alcohol, its symbolic meanings, and how alcohol companies promote their products through media. Professionals from the film industry, corporate sector, media personnel, and celebrities participated and gained knowledge about alcohol industry interferences and strategies.
The competition gained extensive media coverage, with 620 television advertisements, 950 radio spots, and 147 newspaper articles received free of charge. These advertisements are estimated to be worth USD 57,392.31.
