How school children celebrated Valentine’s day

School children themselves proved that by organizing attractive drug prevention programmes that are different from traditional methods can largely make children knowledgeable and in turn, help change their attitudes towards alcohol.

Valentine’s day is an attractive day among the youth. A group of children from Royal College, Panadura held a poster campaign on this day to creatively communicate the effects of smoking on school children. These students firstly identified places that many students would hang out. They displayed posters with attractive messages in the back of the toilet, behind the sports complex and in the playground. It is also important to mention that a majority of the students who were involved in organizing these events were prominent students of the school.

These programmes have received a high response from students.

Youth have a tendency to initiate alcohol, tobacco and other drug use due to many reasons. Providing leadership opportunities to youth prevents not only their initiation to drug use, but through them prevents their friends and peers from initiating drug use.
