My name is B. Vipulasena. I am 62 years of age. I started smoking around 40 years back and used to smoke around 15 cigarettes a day. I used to spend large amounts of time and money smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol with friends. I wasted valuable time that I could have spent with my children. I drank alcohol after work to relieve tiredness. I was able to feel my health condition deteriorating daily. Meanwhile, my wife began work as the manager of the Janashakthi Bank. She continuously told me to stop smoking and drinking alcohol. The manager of the Randunuwatta Bank Association used to come to our house occasionally and explained all disadvantages of using alcohol and smoking. She calculated the money that I would spend on them as well.
Although I knew that alcohol and cigarettes were costly, I had never calculated a total amount. It was after making this calculation I realized that the money I had been spending on alcohol and cigarettes was a waste. From that point onwards, I decided to quit smoking and drinking alcohol.
I was not able to stop instantly. However, I systematically reduced my intake each day. I participated in drug prevention walks that were organized by the Janashakthi Bank. Once I stopped drinking alcohol and smoking, I was able to feel the freedom, save money and most importantly restore my deteriorating health! Therefore, I make this an opportunity to thank my wife, Miss Renuka from the Janashakthi Bank Association and ADIC for helping me to quit smoking and alcohol. I want to say that nothing is impossible! We can save money through which we can provide our children with all the comforts.
