WHO ARE WE?

Sri Lanka is a well-recognized resource centre, promoting demand reduction of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD) and advocating effective policy formulation for ATOD control nationally, regionally and internationally over the last 30 years. Our scientific approach recognizes the importance of preventing drug use through social change and effective education. We provide services to government, non-government, civil society organizations and public in general, in terms of technicality, educational/promotional material on drug prevention, resource persons and information.

HOW DID WE START

Drug Information Centre (ADIC) – Sri Lanka was inaugurated in April 1987 and was established as an independent organization in 1990. ADIC is registered under the Companies Act No. 7 of 2007 and Voluntary Social Services Act No. 31 of 1980 as amended by Act No. 8 of 1998 of Sri Lanka and obtained Approved Charity Status in 1992.

The IOGT-NTO movement is ADIC’s long term partner and we are working together for more than 20 years’ time. The IOGT-NTO movement works to reduce the problems caused by alcohol and other drugs, both at home and abroad. We raise the issue of alcohol and drugs in the political debate and offer advice and support to people addicted.

We are 143 Member Organizations from 58 countries, working to providing opportunities and environments for all people to thrive and live up to their full potential. Our lifestyle and advocacy work creates the conditions for all people to lead happier, healthier, richer, and freer lives.

TobaccoUnmasked is the information portal of the Centre for Combating Tobacco (CCT). It contains evidence based information on the tobacco industry, including, company profiles, employees and tobacco industry allies.

Centre for Combating Tobacco (CCT) is the Sri Lankan tobacco observatory established at the Faculty of Medicine University of Colombo under the Article 5.3 of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), with the aim to monitor tobacco industry activities related to Article 5.3 in Sri Lanka and the region.
